Rosenfern was built out of a desire to escape the Melbourne rat race and find a holiday home in the lush rolling green hills in South Gippsland. After a few years searching from Kilcunda to Wilsons Prom, we found the ideal piece of land in 2021, and started construction of our architect designed home in 2022. The house build finished in 2024, while the landscaping is going to be an ongoing project that will last many years, perhaps decades.
The house can accommodate groups of families up to 10 people across four bedrooms, comprising two king-size beds, one queen-size, and a bunk room for the kids. There is an ensuite off the Master bedroom, a shared bath/shower room and a 3rd toilet off the hallway. All bedrooms and bathrooms have underfloor heating for those crisp Gippsland mornings.
The large open plan living area has comfortable sofa’s and arm chairs, a wood-fired heater, reverse cycle air conditioning, games storage, a large 10 person dining table, breakfast bar area, open plan kitchen (two ovens, induction cooktop, and dishwasher) and a butlers pantry (where the fridge/freezer and microwave are located).
The living area opens out to an expansive patio with outdoor seating, shade umbrellas, a stainless steel BBQ, fire pit, and outdoor table seating up to 10 people.
The house is set on 1 Acre, so there’s plenty of room for the kids to run around and have fun. While the landscaping is a longer term project, we have planted an orchard comprising peaches, nectarines, plums, lemons and apricots, which are of course available to guests in season.
In the laundry we have a 10kg washing machine, and dryer for those days that the external washing line cannot be used, along with an outdoor shower at the door for sand removal after a glorious day at the beach.
